If you are new to knitting, you may be wondering what tools you need to be successful. I love to keep a little pouch of everything I might need with me whenever I’m knitting. This little bag of notions has changed and grown over the years, so I’d love to share with you what I currently keep in this bag and use the most while knitting.
I won’t cover needles in this post because I already have a whole post about my favorite sets. Click here to read that post!

What’s in my bag?
Stitch markers
I always keep a little bag of stitch markers with me. I usually only need one at a time but you never know when you’re going to lose it! And if you’re knitting a raglan sweater or something with a lot of increases, you’ll need a bunch. You should have at least one set, and Etsy is a great place to buy stitch markers from small shops.
Needle stoppers
Have you ever put your project in a bag, or even just set it down somewhere and stitches seem to jump off the needles? Needle stoppers sit on top of your needles and keep this from happening! You can find them in my own Etsy shop here.
Scissors
A pair of scissors is absolutely essential and I like to have a tiny, sharp pair in my bag. I got mine from Michaels.
Tapestry needle
You’ll need a big needle if you plan on weaving in your ends. Most craft stores have them!
Needle tighteners
If you are using interchangeable needles, sometimes the tips can loosen with use. I keep one of the little tighteners with me just in case this happens. I actually have a bunch floating around at the bottom of my bag LOL.
Tape measure
A tape measure is needed a lot when knitting a pattern!
Hand cream
I have recently started keeping a little jar of hand cream with me when knitting. My favorite is from Sewrella.
Barber cords
This cord is awesome for putting stitches on hold. It attaches to the tips of your needles so you can slip them off easily too! I just buy a big spool of it from amazon.

Last but not least, the cute zipper pouch is from KnitPicks! You can find it a few colors here.
Leave a comment letting me know what knitting tool you can’t live without!

I like to keep a 6″ ruler and a small size crochet hook in my bag too. The hook is great for picking up lost stitches.
