Simple Moss Stitch Dishcloth – Free Pattern and Video Tutorial

Hi there!

I have a super easy dishcloth pattern for you to make and a video to go with it too! Read below to see what you need to get started.

Materials

  • H/8 5.0mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tool

Yarn

You will need approximately 40 grams of worsted weight (4) cotton yarn. I like to use Knit Picks Dishie for dishcloths because it is soft, squishy, durable, and comes in a variety of beautiful colors and variegated options. Click here to find this yarn! The color I’m using for this pattern is Mint.

Size

This pattern is intended to create a 8×8″ square. Once you finish 3 rows of the dishcloth pattern, your width should be 8 inches. The height does not matter for gauge. If your stitches are significantly tighter than mine, size up to a 5.5mm hook.

Abbreviations

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

st(s) – stitch(es)

sk – skip

** – repeat what is it between

Pattern

See below pattern for a video tutorial, or click here.

To begin, ch 37.

Row 1: in the 3rd ch from your hook, sc, *ch1, sk1, sc* to the end of the row (18 total scs)

Row 2: ch2 and turn. *sc in ch1 space, ch1* repeat this until you get to the end of the row. your final sc will be in the ch2 space from the previous row.

Repeat Row 2 until the dishcloth measures 8″ tall, or the same height as the width if you are making a different size.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
