What is Daily Harvest?

Daily Harvest is a subscription-based meal delivery service that focuses on providing plant-based, whole-food meals. The company aims to simplify healthy eating by delivering pre-portioned, frozen smoothies, bowls, soups, flatbreads, bites, and more right to your doorstep. All you need to do is heat or blend the meals, making it a convenient option for those with busy lifestyles. You can set up how often you want it delivered, choose exactly what is in your box, and cancel/pause at any time.

Products

Daily Harvest offers a diverse menu and is always adding more to the lineup. Their product categories right now include:

– Smoothies: Packed with fruits, vegetables, and superfoods, these are great for a quick, nutritious breakfast or snack. Just grab a cup out of your freezer, add water or milk, and blend. I usually add a banana if one isn’t already in the recipe.

– Harvest Bowls: These are hearty meals that are perfect for lunch or dinner, featuring a variety of grains, vegetables, and legumes. I love the harvest bowls because they are full of healthy ingredients that I wouldn’t normally cook myself.

– Flatbreads: These are made with gluten-free crusts and topped with vegetables and plant-based ingredients. I LOVE the sweet potato crusts.

– Soups: Ready-to-heat soups that are comforting and nutritious. They typically come with frozen ingredients that you blend into a puree before heating on the stove or microwave. This is the freshest soup you will ever eat.

– Bites: Snack-sized, energy-packed bites made from nuts, seeds, and fruits. These are GREAT when you’re in a hurry and need to eat something fast.

– Oat/Forager Bowls: My fav! They are easy-to-prepare oatmeal bowls for a filling breakfast (or lunch if you’re like me).

– Pasta: Delicious and healthy pasta that is ready to be heated and served within a few minutes. The pesto pasta is amazing.

– Grains: Another new item and a great base for making bowls for dinner. I love the Cilantro Brown Rice + Black Bean grains.

– Pops: Naturally sweet, USDA certified Organic treats that you can give your kids (or yourself). All of the flavor and sweetness comes from real, organic fruits + vegetables. They are free from added sugar, dairy, nuts, and gluten.

– Mylk: Plant based pods that you add water to and blend into milk. They can also be added to smoothies and oat bowls. I love adding oat mylk to my oat bowls!

Pros

1. Convenience: The biggest selling point of Daily Harvest is its convenience. With minimal prep required, it’s easy to enjoy a healthy meal even on the busiest days.

2. Nutrition: Daily Harvest focuses on whole, plant-based ingredients, ensuring you get a nutrient-dense meal without any artificial additives or preservatives. Every ingredient is listed on the package and is all very clean and fresh.

3. Variety: With a wide range of options, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, or just looking to eat healthier, Daily Harvest has you covered. I am not personally vegan, but I enjoy eating dairy free when it’s easy.

4. Sustainability: The company is committed to sustainability, using recyclable packaging and organic ingredients whenever possible. Most of the packaging can be recycled, even the packaging it is shipped in.

5. Taste: Despite being healthy, the meals are designed to be flavorful and satisfying. I personally love almost everything I have tried! There are a few items that I don’t like the ingredients (like asparagus lol).

Cons

1. Cost: I think the biggest con is that Daily Harvest is on the pricier side, with meals costing between $6.99 and $9.99 each. For those on a tight budget, this can add up quickly.

2. Portion Size: Some users have found the portion sizes to be on the smaller side, particularly for the bowls and flatbreads. This might not be sufficient for those with larger appetites. I have never had an issue with portions but my husband has.

3. Subscription Model: While convenient for some, the subscription model can be a drawback for others. It requires regular commitment and planning to ensure you’re not receiving more food than you need, and the exact food you want.

4. Limited Customization: Unlike some meal delivery services that allow you to customize your meals, Daily Harvest’s pre-set recipes might not cater to everyone’s taste preferences or dietary restrictions.

Is Daily Harvest worth it?

Daily Harvest is a fantastic option for those who want convenience and nutrition and are willing to pay a premium for it. It’s especially beneficial for busy professionals, health-conscious individuals, and those who prefer plant-based diets. The variety and quality of the meals make it easy to maintain a healthy eating habit without spending hours in the kitchen.

However, if budget is a major concern or if you prefer larger portions and more customization, Daily Harvest might not be the best fit for you. I believe you get what you pay for, so if you can afford it I would definitely give it a try!
