Homestead Dishcloth – Free Crochet Pattern

The Homestead Dishcloth is named after the beautiful Homesteads found in Virginia, my home state, and matches the Homestead Towel. It is perfect for any kitchen: farmhouse or modern. Add a unique and handmade touch to your home, or give as a thoughtful gift you made yourself! This dishcloth is 100% designed by me and thoroughly tested by a group of excellent crocheters. The texture of this dishcloth is squishy and thick. I hope you enjoy the process and the finished result, and will not only make one, but many!

Materials

Approx. 100 yards of 100% cotton, weight 4 yarn

US K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Gauge

5 rows of 10 double crochet = 3×3″ square

If your tension is very loose and your square is much larger than 3×3″, I recommend going down a hook size so your dishcloth isn’t too big or holey.

Abbreviations

ch – chain

sk – skip

st(s) – stitch(es)

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

Yarn

I love to use a variety of cotton yarn for dishcloths. The purple yarn in the photo is Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton. This yarn washes well and is great for dishcloths. Another yarn I love for dishcloths is KnitPicks Dishie. This is the softest cotton I have ever used and it makes the texture so plump and squishy. Any weight 4 cotton you have will work.

Notes

The finished dishcloth is approx. 9×9″. It is meant to be loose and flowy. Also remember that cotton shrinks a bit in the wash.
