I love knitting socks, but I especially LOVE making DK weight socks! They are super cozy and warm to wear around the house, which I do all day. I even sleep in them! They are also significantly quicker to knit, which is a plus of course. I have put together a list of my favorite patterns for you, as well as some that are on my “to make” list!
Yarn
When knitting DK weight socks, I like to use superwash merino yarn so I can wash them. To make your socks even sturdier, you can hold two strands of sock (fingering) weight yarn together. This way, you are getting 20-25% nylon which will help with the shape and stretch as well. It’s also a fun way to use stash yarn and do some color marling.
Cozy Cabled Cuff Sock by Sandmade Knits
I love this pattern and have made it three times already. The cables are fun and quick, and add the perfect little detail to a sock. I also like the fit and how they hug my ankles. You can find the pattern here!

DK Mermaid Tail Socks by Kneedles & Life
This is my own design, and also comes with child sizes! The mermaid tail stitch is a simple 4-row repeat that comes out looking like the scales on a mermaid’s tail! You can find the pattern on Etsy and Ravelry.

The Thicksgiving Socks by Summer Lee Design Co
This is a great set of patterns that will give you ribbed and vanilla options. I have made the ribbed pattern for my husband multiple times! You can find the pattern here.
Willow Sock Set by Kneedles & Life
This is another one of my own patterns. It comes with a fingering weight pattern and a DK weight pattern. You can find the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry, as well as a mini (child) version on Etsy and Ravelry!

Team Socks by Kneedles & Life (FREE)
I designed this pattern with two strands of sock yarn and the idea that you can make socks in your favorite team’s colors! Of course, you can use any colors you want for these socks. My favorite feature is the little rolling cuff. It’s FREE on my blog here!

Slow Morning DK Socks by Camille Heng
I am actually in the middle of knitting these DK socks but the pattern is lovely and also free! I like the smaller gauge and feel like these will fit really well. I also love the german short row heel. You can find the pattern here!

Simple DK Shorty Socks for Beginner Knitters
This is a pattern I created for knitters who have never made socks before! It’s a basic DK sock and there are video tutorials for every step. Find the FREE pattern here!

The Thickmas Socks by Summer Lee Design Co
This is a similar sock set to the Thicksgiving but has some different patterns, as well as child sizes! You can find the pattern here.
Hibernal DK Socks by Summer Lee Design Co
This looks like quite a lovely, cozy knit sock. I love the little cables! You can find the pattern here.
Leave a comment letting me know if you’ve made any DK weight socks that I didn’t list here and would recommend! 🙂

I can’t think of any DK sock pattern names to recommend at the moment as my brain is goo but I really enjoy DK sock knitting! I’ve made your Mermaid Tail Socks and tested the Team Socks and both are fantastic!
Thank you, Heidi!
